Joshua Z Weinstein

As a filmmaker, Joshua Z Weinstein mines intimate human moments for universal emotions. His feature film, Menashe, was released by A24, and nominated for a Gotham Award for “Breakthrough Director” as well as an Indie Spirit Award for “Best First Feature.” Weinstein’s film projects have shown at Sundance, Berlin, and Camerimage, and his advertising work in the Global Health space was nominated for a Cannes Lion. His comedy “Holocaust Survivor Band” for the NY Times won POY’s Multimedia Project of the Year. He directed the documentaries Drivers Wanted, Flying On Engine, and I Beat Mike Tyson. As a cinematographer, he has lensed Sell/Buy/Date, Elaine Stritch: Shoot Me, and Bikini Moon.

Born in NYC, he spent the aughts playing bass in the hardcore band Trophy Scars, a legacy that will live on through the tattoos on his dedicated fans. The DIY punk culture is enmeshed in his storytelling.
