Bob Holman
Recently dubbed a member of the "Poetry Pantheon" by the New York Times Magazine and featured in a Henry Louis Gates, Jr. profile in the New Yorker, Bob Holman has previously been crowned "Ringmaster of the Spoken Word" (New York Daily News), "Poetry Czar" (Village Voice), "Dean of the Scene" (Seventeen). The San Francisco Poetry Flash says he "just has to be the best MC in the USA... he's our generation's Ezra Pound."
In his live performance, theory meets practice: here comes the New poetry, rife with rock, rap, and theater -- this is poetry that bridges standup, performance art, and music, this is a show guaranteed to rock while your mind dances. Each of Bob's shows is carefully tailored for the individual audiences, bringing together communities as diverse as Holman's aesthetics.
After twenty years as Ambassador to the United States of Poetry, he's got in's across the landscape, in Slam communities, art world, multi-culti lowdowns, and the Academy (he's a professor of poetry at Columbia). His stints on radio, TV, and the music biz means he's a one-man resource center for the spoken word poets in your neighborhood. & with the recent opening of his own club, the Bowery Poetry Club, he has access to many of the great poets of our time.
